RECENSIONE

"Springsteen on Broadway" è la testimonianza su doppio CD dell'omonimo spettacolo teatrale che il Boss ha portato sul palco del 'Walter Kerr Theater' di New York per 236 sere dal 12 ottobre 2017 al 14 dicembre 2018.

Non è un live tradizionale, per apprezzarlo appieno bisogna conoscere bene l’inglese in quanto Springsteen prima, dopo e durante le canzoni si racconta, creando una sorta di monologo 'musicato' nel quale mette a nudo la propria anima senza alcun filtro.
Sul palco è solo con chitarra, armonica e pianoforte, occasionalmente raggiunto dalla compagna Patti Scialfa; i brani sono eseguiti in modo scarno, in assoluta antitesi rispetto alle sovraprodotte versioni originali.
Colpisce particolarmente "Born in the U.S.A." in versione blues, suonata con lo slide su una 12 corde acustica che a fine strofa cala di dinamica lasciando la voce unica protagonista.
In generale sono tutte le canzoni a beneficiare del trattamento 'unplugged' anche se un live così estremo potrebbe non piacere a tutti, sopratutto agli ascoltatori occasionali abituati alle versioni in studio dove i ricchi arrangiamenti hanno di fatto caratterizzato i brani.

Ad ogni modo una scelta coraggiosa pubblicare questo live album (praticamente unico nel suo genere) in cui protagonista è la storia e non le canzoni.

NEIL YOUNG "Harvest" (1972)

CLASSICI DA RISCOPRIRE

"Harvest" di Neil Young fu il disco più venduto del 1972 (otto milioni di copie in totale). Un lavoro delicato e poetico, intenso ma suonato in maniera semplice, che riuscì a piacere ad un pubblico eterogeneo.

“Harvest” è prevalentemente un album di ballate; ci sono brani che affondano le radici nel folk ("Out On The Weekend", “Harvest”) e nel blues (“Are you ready for the country”), insieme ad altri ambiziosamente arrangiati con l’orchestra (“A man needs a maid” e “There’s a world”).
I testi raccontano prevalentemente l’amore ad eccezione della meravigliosa “The needle and the damage done”, emozionante racconto di un amico drogato paragonato al sole che tramonta.
L’album contiene anche una delle più belle ballate di Young "Heart Of Gold", dove il suono della pedal steel guitar di Ben Keith si fonde perfettamente con l'armonica e con la chitarra acustica dell’autore.
L’altro capolavoro del disco è “Old Man”, in cui spiccano l’uso del banjo ed un testo particolarmente impegnato.
Chiude il tutto la sperimentale “Words (beetween the lines of age)”, lungo e solido country rock anch’essa contraddistinta da un testo molto incisivo.

JEFF TWEEDY "Warm" (2018)

RECENSIONE

Come nei primi album dei suoi WILKO, Tweedy esprime in questo 'Warm' tutta l'essenzialità elettro-acustica del suo modo di intendere il country.

A parte un paio di tracce vagamente psichedeliche, il suono generale è indolente ed i testi parlano di vita quotidiana. Non siamo di fronte ad un disco memorabile ma piuttosto ad una raccolta di canzoni sincere che fotografano l'autore all'interno del proprio presente.
Merita una menzione particolare il brano "Having Been Is No Way To Be" dove confluiscono tutti i tratti caratteristici della sua scrittura.

Non è un album da affrettarsi ad acquistare ma potrebbe rivelarsi un buon ascolto in certi momenti 'riflessivi' della giornata.
